Dazed and Wondering

Watched a DVD of "Dazed and Confused" last night and am wondering if the 70's is when everything started to go to hell. For those of you who haven't seen this film made in 93', it centers around "The last day of the school year for the Class of 76". Mindless babble from incoming freshmen and seniors who spend their days and nights getting dope, getting drunk and not getting laid. There was no plan for tomorrow.
For those of us who grew up in the 60's, although we did some of the same things didn't we at least have some sort of direction. Even in the great classic "American Graffiti" the days and nights were spent getting drunk and trying to get laid (grass hadn't quite made the "hip" scene yet) but they all had jobs and although disenchanted they were at least motivated.

I guess my rant is "bad behavior is acceptable as long as you have a plan for tomorrow, even though it might just be to get high, get drunk and try to get laid".

It's funny you mentioned the movie, "Dazed and Confused". It's a classic in my book. As a teenager of the 70's I completely connected the movie. I've been trying to find someone who has seen the movie for years. Most people haven't heard of it. Is that when things when to hell in a hand basket? I'd have to say no. Just kids enjoying youth and not getting laid (at least not often). There was an unspoken awareness of the responsibilities of adulthood as well as a spoken understanding we only get one trip down the road of youth before getting down to the business of adulthood. The idea was to make youth count and get away with what you could while you could. Except for a little driving while under the influence we were law-abiding kids just having fun. Most of us did work. If I remember correctly the movie was based on one day in the life of these teenagers. In between working and sports came the recreational activity depicted in the move.

By the way. I tried to put these comments on your web site but had trouble creating the log-in. I was pressed for time but excited to comment about the movie.
